Wynn Telecom to set up mobile handset facility in HP

SAR Group Company Wynn Telecom today said that it would set up a mobile phone making facility in SAR Groupwith an investment of Rs 270 crore and the plant will be commissioned by next year.

"We will set up a mobile handset manufacturing unit at Gagret in Himachal Pradesh and it will involve an investment of Rs 270 crore," the company's MD Arvind Vohra told reporters here today.

"The unit is expected to get operational by the end of 2011 and will have a production capacity of one million handsets a month," he further said.

Setting up a new plant is in line with the company's plan to invest Rs 500 crore over two years.

 

"We are spending Rs 500 crore on product development and distribution, new plant, branding and marketing," he said.

SAR Group is anticipating that its mobile handset business would have 25 per cent share in total turnover which is expected to reach Rs 2,430 crore by the end of 2010-11 from Rs 935 crore in the last fiscal.

The company, which started its operations in May this year, has also plans to launch new handsets this year. "We will come out with touch screen phones in September and slim handsets in August this year," he said, adding, "it currently has seven models priced between Rs 1,400 and Rs 4,200."

"A major portion of the mobile market in India is dominated by handsets priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 5,000, and dual SIM mobiles are leading the growth. With our wide range of multimedia and youth oriented phone which are smart, affordable, trendy and attractive we are confident of penetrating into the mobile phone market," he said.
