Japanese two-wheeler company Yamaha today said it plans to launch entry level scooters in India by 2012.

"We have numbers of scooters in other markets like US and Europe and currently, we are studying the Indian market. We will launch entry level scooters here soon," Yamaha Motor India director and chief sales officer Jun Nakata said.

Another company official said the launch was expected by 2012.

Yamaha India would manufacture the scooters at either of its existing facilities at Surajpur and Faridabad.

The company has lined up an investment of $10 million by 2012 for increasing its scooter capacity by one million, India Yamaha CEO & MD Hiroyuki Suzuki said.

With this, the company's two-wheeler capacity is expected to touch six lakhs units per annum from the existing number of five lakhs.

He further said the company does not intend to set up new plants but would increase the capacity of its existing units to one million from the current capacity of half-a-million.
