Zee News CEO Barun Das quits channel

Barun Das, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Zee News, has resigned, ending his five-year stint with the Subhash Chandra-promoted channel. Alok Agrawal, who had quit advertising firm Cheil Worldwide in August as COO for Southwest Asia, will replace Das as the new CEO of ZNL.

According to sources, Das will turn an entrepreneur. Das, however, was not reachable for comment.

When Das joined Zee News in late 2007, he was hailed as the youngest CEO of any news network in India. Das holds a BTech from IIT-Madras, a post graduate diploma in management from IIM-Calcutta and is an alumnus of London School of Economics. Prior to joining ZNL, Das had worked as executive vice-president at Media Content & Communications Services, the company that runs ABP News, ABP Majha and ABP Ananda (formerly STAR News, STAR Majha and STAR Ananda).Das has also worked with Astro All Asia Networks and the India Today Group.

 

Other than Cheil Worldwide, Agrawal has worked with Bates, Grey Worldwide and Euro RSCG India. He holds an engineering degree from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from IIM Bangalore.
