Publicis-controlled ZenithOptimedia has retained the media business of Nestle, a key client of the agency. The account, pegged at over Rs 100 crore, had come up for review recently.
Nestle was in talks with Maxus and MediaCom as part of the review process. Zenith was also part of the review process and is said to have retained the account following a stiff challenge from the other players in the fray.
In recent years, Nestle itself has faced stiff competition from companies such as GlaxoSmithKline Consumer, Hindustan Unilever, ITC and Capital Foods in the core category of noodles, where it has the Maggi brand. The Swiss major, which ranks among the top packaged food companies in India, also operates in segments such as chocolates, beverages, milk products and cooking aids.
The review was intended to help Nestle get a fresh perspective on its brands given the increasing competition in its categories of operation. Zenith has won the round for now.
