Chinese mobile handset maker Shenzen Zopo Communication Equipment Company Ltd may start manufacturing its Zopo brand of smart phones in the country from April this year.
“From April, the Zopo brand of smart phones will be manufactured in India and exported to other countries. States like Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan are on Zopo’s radar for a manufacturing facility. Depending on tax sops and other incentives, Zopo will take a call on the location,” said Sanjiv Bhatia, founder and chief executive officer, Advantage Computers India Pvt Ltd, the national distributor for Zopo phones.
Zopo forayed into the Indian market via e-commerce platform in August last year. Offline sales took off from November 2015, Bhatia informed. The smartphone brand has already gained a foothold in states like Karnataka and Maharashtra and would shortly expand its presence to Punjab, Haryana, Odisha and Assam.
“Zopo is a high-end Chinese smartphone brand available in 135 countries. It competes with brands like Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony,” Bhatia claimed.
Zopo intends to capture 10% share of the mobile device market in Odisha in the next three months.
“Besides keeping a close tab on the latest developments in mobile communications technology and constantly upgrading our products, we are now focusing on the expansion part. Eastern India is an important market for us and we wish to establish a strong foothold for our products in this region going forward with our foray in to the state of Odisha,” Kevin Xu, founder, Zopo brand said in a release.
