'Rahul can contest from Italy too!'

Taking a jibe All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday claimed that the sicion of the Gandhi family was an 'international' leader who could contest elections in Italy too.

Raking up the issue of foreign origin of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, on his 62nd birthday on Monday, the BJP leader who is on a month-long poll campaign said that he was proud to be a regional leader. Modi was speaking during a public gathering in Rajkot district.

Commenting on the statement by a Congress leader that Modi was not comparable with Rahul Gandhi because former was a state leader while the later was a national leader, the chief minister said, "I accept 50 per cent of the statement with pride. I am very proud to be the leader of Gujarat and serving its people. But Rahul Gandhi is not a national but an international leader who can win elections both in India as well as Italy!" Modi quipped. He was speaking a public function in Rajkot.
