150,000 people killed in road accidents in 2016: Report

Around 46% people killed on Indian roads belonged to the age group of 18-35 years

Nearly every minute there was an accident in the country last year and about every four minutes a fatality was reported in the year 2016, says a government report released on Wednesday.

A total of 480,000 road accidents took place in India which resulted in the loss of 150,000 lives and injured 494,000 people, the 'Road Accidents in India 2016' said in its report. 

As compared to 2015, the number of road accidents in 2016 is lower by 4.1% but the number of persons killed in 2016 has increased by 3.2% over 2015.
