Over 2.76 lakh cases, including 1,11,984 related to criminal matters, are pending in courts in Jammu and Kashmir and there is proposal to create 18 fast track courts at various levels.
In a written reply to a query in the Legislative Council here today, Minister for Law Mir Saif-ullah said 2,76,478 cases are pending for disposal in J-K High Court and subordinate courts.
Of these, 1,11,984 cases are criminal and 1,64,474 are civil in nature, he said.

There are no fast track courts in the state except for the five existing regular courts of Additional District and Sessions, which were earmarked as fast track courts by the High Court to deal with the cases for district of Anantnag, Baramulla, Jammu, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulawama, Rajouri and Srinagar, he said.
A proposal has been recieved from the High Court regarding creation of the Eight fast track courts of the ranks of District and Session Judge and 10 fast track courts of the rank of Civil Judge senior Division (sub-Judge), Minister said, adding that the matter is under consideration.
