A 25-year-old man from Bhayander has been booked for allegedly posting objectionable morphed pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and circulating it on WhatsApp, police said on Wednesday.
Based on a complaint filed by a Vishwa Hindu Parishad activist Vinod Shinde, an offence was registered against the accused in Bhayander police station.
The accused has been booked under IPC section 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc).
According to a police officer from Bhayander police station, between October 10 and 13, the accused had sent the morphed images of the Prime Minister on WhatsApp to the complainant.
The accused has also been booked under IPC sections 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) police said adding that no arrest was made in connection with the incident.
