Operations at the Delhi airport were hit as 33 flights got diverted to Ahmedabad and Jaipur due to gusty winds on Monday.

Operations were disrupted from late afternoon, as planes could not take off or land because of strong tailwinds. Inbound planes were forced to divert after hovering over the airport. This led to congestion, which caused delays.

Air India, Jet Airways, AirAsia, IndiGo, and GoAir flights were diverted to other airports.

While aircraft can take off or land in up to 15 knots, winds were gusting in at 20-40 knots, putting operations on hold. A knot is a unit for measuring the speed of boats and planes.

The wind condition kept fluctuating throughout the evening, as a result, operations were hit throughout the evening.

Evening departures and arrivals were delayed 30-40 minutes. This had an impact on airlines' network.
