A whopping 8,430 permits have been issued in Shimla to allow vehicles on VIP roads. Though expensive, these permits are much sought after.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh told the House here on Tuesday these permits are issued by various agencies of the government.

The chief minister said the number of permits issued was indeed high and needed to be reduced as it was creating congestion on roads.

These permits are issued to senior government officials, politicians and certain residents of Shimla. He said the traffic police should keep a check and penalise cars without permits.

Singh said CCTV cameras and check points have been set up at many places.
