The 'expandable future car' can convert from an eight seater to a four seater vehicle with the push of a joystick, not a button, like you would have imagined. The inventors - four students of Amity International School in Delhi, hope that their invention will solve problems such as growing traffic jams, decrease air pollution and free up parking space in cities.

The group will present their paper 'expandable future car' at the 23rd Children's Science Congress which is being held at the sidelines of the 103rd Indian Science Congress in Mysuru from the 3rd to 7th January.

The 'expandable future car' will be one among the many research papers to be presented by children at the science congress. Other papers such as "Impact of waste water on crop production, environment and health" which will be presented by Vishal Chand, a student of the government high school in Modia Khera, Haryana.

"We need to engage with our children at the school level and tell them the remarkable contribution made by female scientists of Indian origin. That is a challenge I hope to address at the earliest."

While the number of women enrolling in institutions of higher education has gone up, the number of women pursuing PhDs in the country still languishes. "Many who have to enter domesticity are told that either you can raise a family or raise a career with a PhD," added Irani, while appealing to members of the Indian Science Congress to help push for women to be able to do their doctoral studies at "anytime" from "anywhere".
