A S Kiran Kumar is new chief of Isro

An M Tech in Physical Engineering from IISc, Bangalore, he is the seniormost scientist in the organisation

Alur Seelin Kiran Kumar, director of Space Application Centre (SAC), has been appointed as the new Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro). K Radhakrishnan, who earlier headed the organisation, retired on December 31 and Shailesh Nayak was given additional charge of Chairman, Isro.

An Isro spokesperson confirmed the development and sources said the appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cleared his name and subsequently the order was issued.

Kumar will also be the new Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman of Space Commission on reemployment on contract basis for a tenure of three years.

 

Kumar is the senior most scientist in the organisation. He Kumar received his Physics (Honours) Degree from National College, Bangalore University in 1971 and obtained his Masters Degree in Electronics from Bangalore University in 1973 and thereafter M. Tech Degree in Physical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) in 1975.
