Academies for shooters in TN

Tamil Nadu government on Friday proposed to set up shooting academies at a cost of Rs 40 crore in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai. The decision was taken at a review meeting with senior cabinet colleagues and government officials on Thursday, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said in a statement on Friday.

She rued that although shooters contributed 17 of the 64 medals India bagged in the just concluded Glasgow Commonwealth Games, there were none from Tamil Nadu.

Underlining her government's commitment for the promotion of various sporting activities, she said that it will implement facilities for the sportsmen in three cities at a cost of Rs 40 crore.
 

The chief minister said the government will establish 240 shooting tracks at Tamil Nadu Police Academy in Oonamanchery located near the city, besides buying computerised scoreboards and other related modern accessories.

The government will procure equipment for Skeet and Track and establish 15 shooting tracks each at the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu complexes at Madurai and Coimbatore, she said.
