Activists, intellectuals to attend seminar on democracy & socialism

Four-day event to be inaugurated by External Affairs Minister Salman Kurshid

A Brazilian activist, an Italian political scientist, a Uruguayan anthroplogist, a South African sociologist, a Mexican journalist and a Malaysian politician besides noted Indian economists and intellectuals are expected to take part in an international seminar to be held here from March 7.

The seminar on ‘Democracy, Socialism and Visions for the 21st Century’,  being organised by the Telangana Intellectuals Forum and Center for Dalit Studies and Democracy Dialogues, is aimed at exploring new visions of democracy and socialism in the context of contemporary capitalism.

The four-day event, to be inaugurated by External Affairs Minister Salman Kurshid, will also deliberate on the Telangana movement for a separate state.
 
From India, economists, Amiya Kumar Bagchi  and Prabhat Patnaik, CPI-M and CPI general secretaries Prakash Karat and Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and activists Ashim Roy and Vineet Tiwari would be among those who would be addressing  the seminar.

While there would be a workshop on “Building on left history in Telangana” on the inaugural day, there would be a plenary on “Telangana and its future trajectory” on the final day.
