The fee deposits in some of the private engineering colleges have come under the scanner of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, with complaints of the institutes demanding advance fees from students.
It is learnt that some of these colleges have collected advance fees from students for succeeding years as well which is not the usual practice, an official said.
Such a practice is not as per norms. It also needs to be seen whether any of these transactions have been made to park black money, he said.

A source said the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is looking at the issue and if the need arises, the details may be forwarded to the authorities concerned.
