Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has a friend in Chhattisgarh Congress, literally, to complete an incomplete housing project in the state.
Senior Congress legislator and former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi had reminded the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on whose name the Raman Singh government had launched the Atal Awas Yojana. The scheme ensures houses for poor people at an affordable price.
“Atal ji has been a respected leader in BJP and also in Congress, and at least for him, the state government should complete the scheme that has been named after him,” Jogi said in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on Monday. Please do not insult the name of Vajpayee, Jogi said, adding that the government should not commit irregularities in the scheme that had been launched in his name. Earlier, the issue was raised in the Question Hour when senior Congress legislator Dharamjit Singh asked about the status of the Atal Awas Yojana in the state. State’s Housing Minister Rajesh Munat informed the House that about 35 per cent work in the projects was incomplete.
In 20 districts, the state government was supposed to build 8857 units for the poor people, Munat said, adding that most of the projects were sanctioned in 2008.
“Of the total houses, 5816 units had been constructed while the work on 3041 units was yet to be completed,” Munat said.
