Ajsu won Hatia assembly by-election

All India Jharkhand Students’ Union (Ajsu), a regional party in the state for the first time defeated two national party candidates – Congress and BJP in the byelection of Hatia assembly constituency the result for which was declared on Friday.

The Ajsu candidate Naveen Jaiswan polled 41,332 votes against his nearest rival, former chief minister, Babulal Marandi’s Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM), candidate, Ranchi deputy mayor, Ajay Nath Shahdeo. JVM candidate (Shahdeo) polled 29,774 votes.

BJP was in third position in the race. Its candidate, Ramji Lal Sarada polled 26,186 votes, while Sunil Sahay, younger brother of Ranchi MP and Union tourism minister, Subodh Kant Sahay, contested for the first time secured 21,476 votes. BJP had won the Hatia assembly seat twice placing its candidate Ramji Lal Sarada.

 

As many as 29 candidates were in the fray and save and except Ajsu and JVM all the remaining contestants had lost their security deposits.

There had been over 4 lakh voters in the constituency and of them little over 38 per cent votes were cast on June 12 by-election.
