Amazon to exclusively sell cartoonist Pran's unpublished works

The announcement comes just weeks after Pran breathed his last at the age of 76

e-Commerce major Amazon India has announced an exclusive tie-up with Diamond Toons to release some unpublished works of Pran Kumar Sharma, or Pran, creator of the iconic cartoon character, Chacha Chaudhury.

The announcement comes just weeks after Pran breathed his last at the age of 76.

This could be seen as Amazon's attempt at strengthening its presence in the online books retailing segment, which is currently dominated by its arch-competitor Flipkart.

Under the exclusive tie-up, Amazon will release five sets of Pran's books in English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati, each. The sets will each have nine comics, of which three would be unpublished so far. The comics would feature iconic cartoons characters such as Chacha Chaudhary, Pinki and Billoo.

"The books will be exclusively available on www.amamzon.in from September 1, 2014," a company release said. "Amazon.in has already started pre-orders for these books from this week."
