The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) on the alleged encounter in the Seshachalam forest area, in which 20 woodcutters were killed by the task force team earlier this month.
Ravishankar Ayyanar, an IG rank IPS officer recently repatriated from central deputation after working in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has been appointed as head of the SIT.
“The AP government has constituted a special investigation team for thorough investigation into the incident that led to opening of fire by the Red Sanders Anti Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) at Chalamala Range, Nagapatla section, in the Seshachalam forest area on April 7 in Chittoor district,”J V Ramudu, director general of police (DGP) stated on Friday.
The SIT formed with eight officers, including Ayyanar, has BV Ramana Kumar, DIG of Kurnool, G Pala Raju superintendent of police (SP) -technical services, and L Chandrasekhar, additional SP, West Godavari district. It will conduct a comprehensive investigation into all the cases registered in this connection.
