The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) would be introducing 1,080 new buses by March 2015 and the old buses would be replaced in a phased manner.
AP Transport minister Sidda Raghava Rao, who held a review meeting on Wednesday, also said efforts were being made to renovate Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam bus stations as commercial complexes on a build, operate and transfer basis. He said accommodation would be provided to those willing to set up mineral water plants for the benefit of passengers.
At present, APSRTC operates about 10,000 buses transporting 5.4 million passengers a day. The corporation had incurred a loss of Rs 2,800 crore and the state government had recently sanctioned Rs 250 crore to it.
