Asaram witness murder case: CBI begins probe

CBI has begun probe into the murder of a prime witness in a rape case against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, and got all documents from the local police here.

According to SHO of Newmandi police station A K Singh, all papers in connection with the Akhil Gupta murder case were handed over to the CBI yesterday.

The Uttar Pradesh government had on July 24 recommended a CBI probe into the murder of Gupta in a rape case against Asaram Bapu.

35-year-old Akhil was shot at by unidentified persons on January 11 this year. Subsequently, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
 
He was a cook and personal aide of 74-year-old Asaram, who has been in jail since August, 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
