Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, who submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last night, said that he had done so to put an end to the unnecessary controversy over the Supreme Court order on CBI’s affidavit.
Addressing a press conference, he clarified that no adverse comment had been made by the court against him.
Kumar said that his conscience was clear and that he was confident he would be vindicated.
The former law minister also claimed that he had not lost support of any of his leaders. He said he is “loyal foot soldier of the Congress party.”
CBI chief Ranjit Sinha had submitted in the court on May 6 that he had shared the coal probe status report with the Ashwani Kumar as desired by him before submitting it in the court. Sinha also admitted sharing the report with joint secretary level officers of the Prime Minister’s Office and the coal ministry.
