Narendra Modi is set to return to power in Gujarat with a thumping majority, but two auto hubs that shot to fame during his chief minister-ship, Sanand and Viramgam (Hansalpur) have voted against him.
BJP candidate Kamabhai Gagjibhai Rathod has lost to Congress' candidate Karamsibhai Virjibhai Patel in Sanand by a margin of over 4,148 votes. Whereas, in Viramgam, Congress candidate Tejashree Patel won by margin of 16983 votes beating BJP's Pragjibhai Patel.
Sanand had catapulted to the league of global automobile hubs after the Tata Motors Nano project commenced in the area in 2008.
Like Sanand, Viramgam too has voted for the Congress candidate's pro-active work in the area. Hansalpur, which falls under the Viramgam constituency, is the new home to Haryana-based Maruti Suzuki.
