Bihar Police on Wednesday rescued two sons of a Delhi-based businessman in Bihar's Lakhisarai district. They were abducted allegedly for extortion.
The abducted duo, identified as Suresh Kumar and Kapil Sharma, sons of a Delhi-based marble trader Babulal Sharma, were kidnapped from Patna Airport on October 22. "A special investigation team was formed soon after the FIR was filed," told Additional Director General (ADG) Sunil Kumar.
"on the basis of intelligence gathered from various sources, the team conducted a raid around 5'o clock in the morning in a village under the Kajara Pahadi Police Station in Lakhisarai district. After which the brothers were freed from the captivity," said Kumar.
Kumar said that given the sensitiveness of the case, the team was headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj and also comprised Lakhisarai SP. He hailed this as a prominent accomplishment for the Patna Police and announced cash reward for all the policemen involved in the operation.
The police have also arrested five people connected to the crime. Arms and ammunition, food items, and drugs have been seized from them. "Total five people have been arrested by the police so far in this case. We expected some more arrests in the next few days as they have given us some names in the initial interrogation. We will cross check their statements. We take all the legal steps to ensure that the guilty are punished. As soon as we nab all the culprits, we will file the charge sheet and speedy trial mechanism will be ensured," the ADG told the reporters.
The two brothers were lured to Patna on the pretext of signing a hefty government contract and abducted from the airport soon after their arrival by a commercial flight. According to the police officials, they were kidnapped for ransom by a local criminal gang headed by Ranjit Mandal alias Ranjit Don. He and his other accomplices escaped in the hilly areas during the raid by the police. The ADG added that the search operation is still on to nab the culprits.
After the kidnapping, the state government came under attacks from the opposition parties and they questioned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's commitment on law and order situation. However, the state government and Bihar Police repeatedly refuted the charges. "We have still one of the lowest crime figures in the country. This is only second incident of its kind (where victims were brought from other states) and we have successfully cracked them both," said ADG Kumar.
