A sub-Inspector (SI) posted at Alauli police station of the Khagaria district was today arrested along with a tout for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 20,000, a vigilance department official said.

SI Imteyaz Jhankar had demanded Rs 20,000 from the munshi of a private transport company Raju Lal Mahto for sending requisition to Motor Vehicles Inspector (MVI) seeking report of a truck that had met with an accident, Vigilance Director General (DG) PK Thakur said.

The MVI report is part of the normal process followed for releasing the vehicles which are seized after being involved in accidents.

"Mahto complained us. Accordingly, we constituted a trap team led by DSP Mohammad Jamiruddin and dispatched it to Alauli. Jhankar took the graft money and handed it over to his tout Kundan," Thakur said.

The arrested SI and his tout will be produced in vigilance court tomorrow.
