The dawn-to-dusk hartal called for by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala following murder of one of its party member in the State, has affected the regular life of the citizen and also resulted in law and order issues in various parts of the State.

The hartal turned violent in several parts of the State, with some of the party members of Communist party attacked, according to reports. Shops were shut during the hartal hours and transport was affected. BJP partymen marched towards the Secretariate in Thiruvananthapuram and various offices across the State to mark their protest.

The hartal was announced after a BJP partyman, Remith, was hacked to death at Pinarayi, Kannur district, allegedly by people from the communist party.
