The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday got approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet to appoint two joint directors and give extension to six others.

The agency's proposal to appoint two officers - Amrit Mohan Prasad, a 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Odisha cadre and A K Sharma, a 1987-batch IPS officer from Gujarat cadre for a period of five years- has been approved by the ACC.

It could not be immediately known under which department these two officers will be posted. An agency spokesperson said the posting will be decided only after the officials join the agency.

Since Anil Sinha has taken over as the charge of the CBI Director in December last year, the agency has witnessed a series of re-shuffles and appointments.

Most CBI joint directors, whose tenure has been extended, were part of a major reshuffle in February this year. Apart from this, seven CBI officers received promotion to the rank of DIG and the tenure of six others was extended earlier this month.

The CBI has termed the tenure extension of six CBI officials on Wednesday as a routine exercise. "The five-year tenure of CBI officials can be extended twice by two years," said a CBI spokesperson.

The tenure of Prabodh Kumar, a 1988-batch IPS officer of Punjab cadre and Keshav Kumar, a 1986-batch Gujarat cadre officer, was extended for the second time this year till January 2016.

Prabodh, who has handled major corruption cases including Tatra truck scam, AgustaWestland case while working under the Anti-Corruption wing earlier, was transferred to Banking Services and Fraud Section in February this year.

Keshav is in the Anti- Corruption branch of the agency in Mumbai besides handling the Economic Offences (EO) Zone-II of the agency. He previously headed the special crime unit at the agency headquarter in Delhi.

The tenure of R P Agrawal, who was recently tasked to take charge of the anti-corruption wing of the agency, has also been extended by nine months till January 2016.

Two officials, Su Arunachalam, 1993-batch IPS officer from Tamil Nadu and Rajeev Sharma, 1990-batch IPS officer from Rajasthan, have got an extension of two months till June this year.

Since February this year, Sharma has been handling the Economic Offences Zone-I besides looking after anti-corruption branches of Chandigarh Nagpur, Jabalpur and Bhopal. Su Arunachalam is handling the anti-corruption branch of Chennai and Hyderabad.

Sunil Kumar Jha, a 1993-batch IPS officer from Bihar cadre, is the head of zone for the agency in Lucknow. He has got an extension in the agency till 25 April 2016.
