CCTV cameras for all jails in Karnataka

Karnataka Prisons Department is mulling to install CCTV cameras in all jails in the state, said a member of a committee which has been formed to submit a report on the issue. The Department has formed a three-member committee which would submit a report after visiting all the prisons in the state, Ballari Central Prisons Superintendent and member of the Committee P Ranganath said.

The committee would visit Ballari, Vijayapura, Dharwad, Bengaluru, Mysuru and Tumakuru central prisons including women's prison and 20 district prisons shortly, he said. The panel would inspect the strength and the design of the prison buildings, he said.
 
Ranganath said jammers had already been installed in Bengaluru, Belagavi and Dharwad central prisons. Sixty-five CCTV cameras have already been installed in Ballari and Dharwad prisons and 35 in Vijayapura, he said.
