Central team visits sites for IIM Odisha, to submit report soon

A central site selection committee headed by Amarjeet Sinha, additional secretary of Union ministry of human resource development today visited the two sites proposed by the state government for establishment of the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

The other members of the team were Professor Saibal Chattopadhyay, director of IIM, Calcutta, chief engineer Central Public Works Department and the Khurda collector. The team was accompanied by the director in charge, IIT Bhubaneswar, director, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), officials of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) and senior officials from the department of employment & technical education & training.
 
"For setting up IIM, we visited two sites provided by the state government today. The temporary campus was also shown us in the IIIT. We will submit the report in a few days," said Sinha.

The selected two sites are on the city's outskirts- one at Gothapatna, where IIIT is located and the other near Argul, close to the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), for establishment of the premier management institute. While the location at near IIIT is spread over 79.4 acres of land and the identified site is near IIT Argul site on 114 acres of land.

The selection committee has expressed satisfaction on the site near the IIIT over the location proposed in Argul, sources said. The committee will soon submit its report to the Union government.

The team also visited IIIT campus and took stock of the hostel, laboratory and class room facilities.
