Chennai airport estimates Rs 66 cr loss due to recent rain and floods

The airport's operation was suspended for nearly six days during the deluge

The Airports Authority of India has estimated around Rs 66.56 crore loss due to the recent unprecedented rain and floods.

The airport was closed for nearly six days since December 1 during the deluge.

Deepak Shastri, director, Chennai Airport said that the assets damaged due to floods have been assessed.

The estimated damage to communication/ navigation & surveillance facilities/equipment and other damages works out to Rs 31.06 crore.

Further, due to business interruption, Chennai Airport has also incurred a loss of around Rs 35.50 crore (traffic & non-traffic tevenue).

The airport was shut down after it was inundated mainly due to water from Adyar River, which runs under the second runway.
