Around 1,000 labourers who had migrated from Chhattisgarh in search of job, are trapped at different places in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the information passed on to the local administration, here, labourers trapped in the Kashmir valley hail from Janjgir, Bilaspur, Korba and Raigarh districts. They migrated to Jammu and Kashmir to work in brick kilns as they are considered expert in the field.

A good number of labourers have been going to Jammu and Kashmir, annually, from Chhattisgarh. Most of the labourers usually return before the paddy harvest starts in the state in the month of October and November. The flood that wrecked valley state, has forced Chhattisgarh labourers to stay back in the state.

After flood hit the area, labourers reportedly trekked mountainous terrain and took shelter at safe places. "The state officials have been in touch with the trapped labourers and efforts are on to evacuate them," a senior labour-department official said. All the labourers from Chhattisgarh are reported to be safe, he added.

During conversation, the labourers informed officials that they have been getting food and relief material but they are looking forward for an opportunity to return to their native state.
