Citizenship Bill Committee to visit Assam after by-elections

The Committee will announce fresh dates to visit Assam to take the views of organisations/stakeholders on the issue

The Joint Committee on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 would visit Assam after the November 19 by-elections, contrary to media reports that the visit has been postponed indefinitely, the Home Commissioner here said on Wednesday.

Assam Commissioner and Secretary of Home and Political department L S Changsan said the media reports on Wednesday were not based on fact as the study visit to Assam of the Committee would be after the by-elections.

The Committee will announce fresh dates to visit Assam to take the views of organisations/stakeholders on the issue, Changsan said, adding,the new date will be intimated to them once finalised by the Committee.
 
This has been informed by Dr Satyapal Singh, Chairman of the Committee to the Assam government on Wednesday, she said.
