CM stresses on time-bound clearances for large projects

Out of 92 project proponents that have signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government, 43 have commenced production while seven projects are under various stages of construction

With large industrial projects unable to make headway due to inordinate delay in land acquisition and obtaining regulatory approvals, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has stressed on time bound clearance for such projects.

Patnaik today took stock of progress made in respect of large industrial projects in the state. It was decided that the chief minister would review the status of such projects on the second week of every month.

If delay in a project is due to certain policy decisions of the government, the same can be reviewed at Cabinet meetings, he stressed. Since officials at the district administration level have the key responsibility to push the projects, accountability will be fixed on the concerned officers for project delays.

Out of 92 project proponents that have signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government, 43 have commenced production while seven projects are under various stages of construction. Land acquisition is pending for 27 other projects. The rest 15 projects have not been able to take off because of several reasons. Out of 92 projects, 77 belong to sectors like steel, power, aluminium and cement. Among the non-MoU projects, 204 out of 224 projects have been stuck in delays due to different reasons.
