The counting for Karnataka Assembly polls, which will decide the fate of around 2,940 candidates in 223 Assembly constituencies, has begun.
As per the early indications that have been trickling in, the Congress is leading in 27 constituencies while ruling party BJP is leading in 21. The JDS is leading in 4 assembly constituencies. Karnataka Janata Party, lead by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, is leading in about 2 seats.
Karnataka Assembly has 224 seats, however the election in Periyapatna in Mysore was countermanded following the death of BJP candidate and had been put off to May 28.

The commission has arranged around 33 counting stations across the state. It has also made elaborate security arrangements at all the counting stations and had deployed 1.35 lakh police personnel on duty.
The elections for the state assembly were held on May 5.
