Haryana directs VCs to continue conducting online classes till Oct 15
The Haryana government on Sunday directed vice-chancellors of residential universities to continue conducting online classes till October 15, modifying its earlier order to plan the reopening of institutes from the upcoming academic session.
COVID-19 induced curbs in the state were extended for a fortnight with the relaxations permitted earlier allowed to continue.
"The Mahamari Alert-Surakshit Haryana is extended for another fortnight, that is from September 6 (5 am onwards) to September 20 (till 5 am), along with guidelines to be implemented during this period issued vide earlier orders," an order by Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan on Sunday stated.

3 fresh COVID-19 cases take Ladakh's tally to 20,578
Ladakh's COVID-19 tally increased to 20,578 with three fresh cases, while the active caseload came down to 59 as 13 more patients recovered from the disease, officials said on Sunday.
All the fresh cases were reported from Leh district, they said.
So far, Ladakh has recorded 207 Covid-related deaths -- 149 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
Seven patients were discharged from hospitals in Leh after recovering from COVID-19 and six in Kargil the previous day. With this, 20,312 patients have recovered till date in Ladakh, the officials said.
Of the 59 active cases in the union territory, 47 are in Leh and 12 in Kargil, they said.

Brazil bans use of Chinese vaccines made at unauthorised plant
Brazil has banned the distribution of millions of Chinese Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines as the plant in which they were made is not authorised by the Latin American country's health regulator.
In a statement on Saturday, ANVISA, a regulatory body of the Brazilian government, said it has "determined the precautionary interdiction of batches of CoronaVac vaccine, prohibiting the distribution and use of batches in the plant not approved by the Authorization for Emergency Use (AUE)."

Covid-19 recoveries edge out fresh cases in Arunachal
The Covid-19 recovery rate in Arunachal Pradesh improved to 98.07 per cent after 114 people were discharged in a single day, a senior health department official said on Sunday.
The northeastern state now has 762 active cases, and a total of 52,276 patients have so far recovered from the disease, he said. The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 143, followed by Lower Subansiri (104), West Kameng (52) and Lower Dibang Valley (50).

India cases: Latest updates
With 42,766 people testing positive for the novel coronavirus infection in day, India's infection tally rose to 3,29,88,673, while active cases registered an increase for the fifth consecutive day, the Union health ministry said on Sunday.
The Covid-19 death toll has climbed to 4,40,533, with 308 new fatalities, according to the ministry data updated at 8 am on Sunday. The active cases have increased to 4,10,048, comprising 1.24 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.42 per cent, the health ministry said.
An increase of 4,367 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. Less than 50,000 daily new cases are being reported for 70 consecutive days, the ministry said.

80% of Mumbai's adult population received at least 1 Covid-19 shot: BMC
A total of 1.3 lakh COVID-19 vaccines doses were administered in the Mumbai district on Saturday, said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.
According to BMC Commissioner, at least 80 per cent of eligible citizens of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) have taken at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Maharashtra reports 4,130 cases, 64 deaths
Maharashtra on Saturday reported 4,130 new coronavirus cases and 64 fatalities, the state health department said.
The infection tally in the state thus rose to 64,82,117 while the death toll reached 1,37,707. The number of recoveries rose to 62,88,851, with 2,506 patients discharged during the day. The state now has 52,025 active cases.

India administers over 680 million coronavirus vaccine doses so far
India has administered over 680 million COVID-19 vaccine doses so far since the rollout of the vaccination drive on January 16 this year, the Union Health Ministry informed on Saturday.
"In a landmark milestone, India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 68 Crore landmark milestone (68, 37, 29,058) today," the ministry's press release read.

Assam reports 10 more Covid deaths, 542 new cases
Assam on Saturday reported 542 new Covid-19 cases, 22 less than the previous day, with the tally increasing to 5,91,659, a bulletin issued by the National Health Mission said. Ten more fatalities due to the infection raised the death toll to 5,693, it said.
The number of active cases declined to 5,056 as against 5,158 recorded on the previous day. Golaghat district reported two fresh fatalities, while one each was recorded in Barpeta, Cachar, Hojai, Kamrup Metro, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Nagaon and Sonitpur.
At least 1,347 COVID-19 patients in the state have died due to some other reasons. Of the 542 fresh cases, 107 were reported from Kamrup Metro, 48 from Barpeta, 30 from Golaghat and 27 from Sonitpur.
