Global coronavirus update: Covid-19 caseload goes past 172 million
The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 172 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.69 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Friday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 172,005,004 and 3,698,128, respectively.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 33,325,514 and 596,395, respectively, according to the CSSE.
In terms of infections, India follows in the second place with 28,441,986 cases. Read on...

Admitted to foreign universities, students face Covid-19 vaccine question
Bengaluru resident Anusha Hegde (name changed on request) has got admission in masters in finance at a US university. She was to join the Fall semester, which begins in August-September 2021, but has deferred her admission to the January 2022 session due to uncertainty over vaccination and travel norms. Thankfully, the university has granted her request.
Sakshi Petkar (name changed) from Mumbai, who has got admission to a liberal arts ungraduated course in the US, is also worried about getting vaccinated in time for her programme, given the slow pace of the Covid vaccination in India for the 18-44 age bracket. Read on...

Jagan Mohan proposes central management of coronavirus vaccine supply
Reaching out to his counterparts across the country, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday called for collectively urging the Central government 'to take charge and responsibility' for the vaccination drive, as was being done earlier.
