Another case of brothers dying together due to Covid in UP
Two brothers, born three years apart, die in a Meerut hospital, within hours of each other, due to Covid. The brothers, Raza Hussain Zaidi, 27, and Shuja Hussain Zaidi, 24, were inseparable. They went to the same school and later to the same college from where they graduated as engineers.
Shuja tested positive for Covid and was admitted to a hospital where he was recovering.
Raza, the eldest among the three siblings, also complained of fever on May 22. As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to a private hospital, where his younger brother was already admitted. But, within a few hours, Raza passed away.

Kerala govt to issue Covid vaccination certificates with passport numbers for those travelling abroad
The Kerala government has announced it will issue Covid-19 vaccination certificates with passport numbers to people travelling abroad to countries where it is mandatory. The district medical officers have been authorised as the competent authority to issue these certificates.
"Those beneficiaries (above 18 years) who are travelling abroad and wants to get the State Issued COVID Vaccination certificate, with Passport number and/or vaccine name added (in case of Covishield) as mentioned in GO must apply for the same through https://covid19.kerala.gov.in/vaccine/," the notification issued by the Kerala government on Saturday read.
"Applications thus submitted will be verified by the concerned District Medical Officer/ Officer designated by DMO and the application will be approved/rejected. Once approved digital certificate will be issued, and the Beneficiary will get an SMS confirmation regarding the same. Certificate can then be downloaded from the portal (https://covid19.kerala.gov.in/vaccine/)," it said.

UK records another 3,398 coronavirus cases
Another 3,398 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, down from 4,182 cases reported Friday, which was the highest daily number since April 1, according to official figures released Saturday. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 4,480,945, according to official figures.
The country also reported another seven coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain to 127,775. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test.
The latest data were revealed as a British expert warned that the India-related coronavirus variant could "pick up speed and become a big problem" in Britain as the country further eases its lockdown.

Global Covid-19 caseload tops 169.7mn with more than 3.52 mn deaths
The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 169.7 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.52 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Sunday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 169,773,989 and 3,529,577, respectively.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 33,251,717 and 594,304, respectively, according to the CSSE. READ ON...

Singapore reports only 33 new Covid-19 cases
Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 33 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, including 23 locally-transmitted cases and 10 imported ones, bringing the total tally to 62,003.
Of the local cases, 19 are linked to the previous cases and four are currently unlinked.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 199 cases in the week before to 138 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from 48 cases in the week before to 23 cases in the past week, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Argentina reports 416 more deaths from Covid-19, tally surpasses 77,000
Argentina on Saturday surpassed 77,000 deaths from COVID-19, the Ministry of Health reported.
With 416 more deaths in the past day, the death toll reached 77,108 and another 29,841 new cases were also recorded, bringing the total caseload to 3,732,263.
A total of 366,688 people are in the active stage of the disease and 6,909 patients are currently hospitalized in intensive care units. According to the Public Vaccination Monitor, since December 29, 12,063,160 doses of vaccine have been administered in the country. READ ON...

HC to rule on Monday on plea to stop Central Vista work during Covid-19
The Delhi High Court will decide on Monday whether to allow the continuation of the Central Vista project work during the prevailing Covid pandemic.
A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh, which had been hearing a plea for suspending the ongoing construction work during the Covid pandemic, has fixed May 31 for delivery of its judgement on it, the high court's cause list revealed on Saturday.

Govt stops central allocation of Remdesivir to states as supply improves
The Centre has stopped allocation of antiviral drug Remdesivir to states as the supply of the critical medication has surpassed the demand, Union Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya said on Saturday.
"Now the country has enough #Remdesivir as the supply is much more than the demand. So we have decided to DISCONTINUE the Central Allocation of Remdesivir to States," Mandaviya said in a tweet.
The Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers noted that the supply of the drug, which is being used to treat COVID-19, has been ramped up over ten times from just 33,000 vials a day on April 11, 2021 to 3,50,000 vials per day currently. READ ON...
