As many as 24 legislators in Goa, which is 60 per cent of the total strength of the 40-member state Assembly, have switched parties in the last five years, a report by an organisation has said.
The Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) said in its report that with this, Goa has set a unique record, which is "unparalleled" in the history of Indian democracy.
Assembly polls in Goa will be held on February 14.
BSP releases list of 51 candidates for second phase of UP Polls
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Saturday released a list of 51 candidates for the second phase of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference, BSP chief Mayawati also gave the slogan of the party for the elections "Har Polling Booth Ko Jeetana hai, BSP Ko Satta Mein Lana Hai".
"Today, I am announcing a list of 51 candidates out of 55 seats for the second phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections. This time we have given the slogan 'Har Polling Booth Ko Jeetana hai, BSP Ko Satta Mein Lana Hai'. I hope party workers will work hard and will form the BSP government like of 2007," said Mayawati.

Indian-origin scientist creates 1st molecular structure of Omicron protein
An Indian-origin researcher at University of British Columbia (UBC) has created the world's first molecular-level structural analysis of the Omicron variant spike protein.
Published in the Science journal, the analysis which is done at near atomic resolution using cryo-electron microscopy, reveals how the heavily mutated Omicron variant attaches to and infects human cells.
Ashok Gehlot writes to PM Modi, opposes proposed changes in IAS cadre rules
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi opposing the Centre's proposed amendments to the Indian Administrative Service Cadre Rules and said the move will violate the constitutional jurisdiction prescribed for the Central and State Governments and will reduce the spirit of working fearlessly and faithfully in the All India Service officers posted in the state.
The Chief Minister took to Twitter to highlight the problems posed by the said amendment.
896 Indians amongst 1,214 players registered for IPL 2022 auction
After the registration for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 player auction ended on January 20, the tournament said in an official advisory that 1,214 players have registered for the two-day event.
From the 1,214 players, 896 are Indian cricketers while 318 overseas players have signed up for the auction as well.
The IPL 2022 mega auction will see new franchises, Ahmedabad and Lucknow, entering the bandwagon with multiple reports suggesting the event could take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
UK classifies new form of Omicron as 'variant under investigation'
A new form of Omicron named BA.2 has been designated a "variant under investigation", with 426 cases of the Covid-19 strain's sub-lineage confirmed in Britain, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said.
"Overall, the original Omicron lineage, BA.1, is dominant in the UK and the proportion of BA.2 cases is currently low," with the earliest dated December 6, 2021, Xinhua news agency quoted the UKHSA as saying in a statement on Friday.
EC holds virtual meets to decide on whether ban on physical rallies should continue
The Election Commission is holding a series of virtual meets on Saturday to decide whether the ban imposed by it on physical rallies and roadshows to prevent the spread of coronavirus should continue.
Announcing dates for elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur on January 8, the poll panel had announced a ban on physical rallies, road and bike shows, and similar campaigning events till January 15.
Former PM Deve Gowda tests COVID positive
Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has tested positive for COVID-19, sources close to him said.
"He has tested positive for COVID-19 but he is asymptomatic. However, he is admitted to Manipal Hospital," the sources told PTI.
The JD(S) supremo chose to get admitted to hospital as a precaution, the sources added.
Arunachal Pradesh logs 532 new COVID-19 cases
Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally rose to 58,803 after 532 more people tested positive for the infection on Saturday, the highest this month, a senior health department official said here.
The northeastern state on Friday had logged 449 new COVID-19 cases.
Odisha records 8,845 new COVID-19 cases, 7 fresh fatalities
Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 11,96,140 on Saturday as 8,845 people, including 927 children, tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.
The daily spike in cases is the lowest in the last 10 days, reducing by 18.5 per cent from 10,856 a week ago. The state had logged 9,833 cases and six deaths on Friday.

COVID-19: Amid rising cases, Gujarat imposes night curfew in 17 more towns
In view of rising COVID-19 cases in the state, the Gujarat government has imposed a night curfew in 17 more towns and extended its implementation in eight metros and two cities till January 26, informed Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday.
The cities where night curfew will be imposed are Surendranagar, Dhrangradhra, Morbi, Wankaner, Dhoraji, Gondal, Jetpur, Kalawad, Godhra, Vijalpore, Navsari, Navsari, Bilimora, Vyara, Vapi Valsad, Bharuch, Ankleshwar.
A review meeting was held by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday before announcing the reviewed guidelines.
