Covid-19: India reports 26,624 new cases in 24 hrs, death toll at 1,45,477

India's Covid-19 caseload rose to 1,00,31,223 with 26,624 new infections being reported in a day, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 95.80 lakh pushing thenational recovery rate to95.51 per cent,accordingto the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.
 
The death toll increased to1,45,477 with 341 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Telangana's active Covid-19 cases dip to 6,888; Infection count rises to 2.81 lakh

Active Covid-19 cases continued to dip in Telangana with over 6,800 people under treatment for the disease while the infection count rose to 2.81 lakh with 592 more testing positive, the state government said on Sunday.

Three fresh deaths pushed the toll to 1,513 as of 8 PM on Saturday, its latest Covid-19 bulletin said.

The active cases, which fell below the 7,000 mark on Friday, further declined to 6,888.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of fresh cases with 119, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri 70 and Rangareddy 57 cases.

Investors to track global events, Covid-19 vaccine progress in holiday-shortened week ahead

In the absence of major domestic triggers, equity market would turn its focus on global events mainly US financial stimulus update and development related to Covid-19 vaccination in the holiday-shortened week ahead, analysts said.

The domestic market may also witness profit-booking at record levels.

Financial markets will remain closed on Friday for Christmas.

"Going ahead, the markets may continue with its positive bias on the back of abundant liquidity, effective vaccine rollout and increasing prospects of a US financial stimulus. However, intermittent profit-booking cannot be ruled out as the Christmas vacation starts from this week," said Siddhartha Khemka, Head - Retail Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd.

Markets could also be volatile given monthly futures and options (F&O) expiry, he added.

Jharkhand reports 247 new Covid-19 cases, two more deaths

Jharkhand's Covid-19 tally mounted to 1,12,853 as 247 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Sunday.

The death toll rose to 1,010 as two persons from Gumla and Dhanbad succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, he said.

Covid-19 tally in Andamans rises to 4,875 with six new cases

Six more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, raising the tally in the Union Territory to 4,875, a health department official said on Sunday.

The death toll remained at 61 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported, he said.

Of the fresh cases, three were detected during contact tracing and the rest have travel history.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: 423 new Covid-19 cases in Thane; tally reaches 2,38,528

With an addition of 423 new Covid-19 cases, the tally in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 2,38,528, an official said on Sunday.

The district has also reported eight new deaths due to the viral infection, taking the toll to 5,871, he said.

As of now, there are 4,547 active Covid-19 cases in the district, while 2,28,110 patients have recovered.

The Covid-19 recovery rate in the district is 95.63 per cent, the mortalityrate is 2.46 per cent, while the active cases constitute 1.91 per cent of the total cases reported so far, the official said.

Emmanuel Macron's condition 'stable' after testing Covid-19 positive

French President Emmanuel Macron's health condition is "stable" after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus last week, the Elysee Presidential Palace said in a statement.

US reports all-time high with over 400,000 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

In yet another grim development amid the raging coronavirus pandemic, the US reported an all-time number of single-day confirmed cases, according to health authorities.

In its latest update on Saturday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the country registered a record high 403,359 new cases and 2,756 deaths, reports Xinhua news agency.

As of Sunday morning, the US still accounts for world's highest number of cases and deaths at 17,631,293 and 316,006, respectively.

Saturday's data brought the seven-day average daily case increase to a record-high of 238,923 cases, and the seven-day average daily death increase to over 2,500.

Railways lost 700 workers to Covid in last 9 months, among 30,000 infected

The Railways has lost around 700 frontline workers, among the 30,000 infected with COVID-19 in the last nine months, according to sources who said that most of those who lost their lives were working amid the general public to facilitate the running of trains during the pandemic.

Global Covid19 cases surpass 76 million, death toll up by 1.68 mn: Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed the 76 million mark, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.68 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Sunday, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 76,199,167 and 1,683,910, respectively.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 17,631,293 and 316,006, respectively, according to the CSSE.

India comes in second place in terms of cases at 10,004,599, while the country's death toll soared to 145,136.

Curfew imposed in Thailand's pandemic-hit province near Bangkok

A curfew has been declared throughout Thailand's pandemic-hit Samut Sakhon province near Bangkok starting Saturday in the face of a spread of Covid-19 which has infected 548 people so far.

Provincial governor Verasak Vichitsangsri announced in a press conference the lockdown measures, including the curfew between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM from Saturday until January 3.

Schools, stadiums, and boxing arenas have been ordered temporarily closed while convenience stores will be closed during the curfew period, according to the provincial governor.

Delhi reports 1,139 new coronavirus cases, 32 deaths

Delhi reported 1,139 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, taking the total number of active coronavirus cases in the national capital to 10,358.

According to the Delhi health department, 32 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours surging the death toll to 10,251. The Case Fatality rate in Delhi stands at 1.66 per cent.

A total of 2,168 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 5,95,305 in the national capital.

Over 400,000 new coronavirus cases reported in US

The United States has confirmed a record of more than 400,000 new coronavirus cases over a 24-hour period, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in its latest update.

According to CDC's Saturday data, US states reported a total of 403,359 new cases confirmed on Friday.

The previous daily record high was reported by the CDC on December 11 (244,011 new Covid-19 cases).

CDC said in its Saturday update that 2,756 new deaths from Covid-19 have been registered across the US over the preceding 24-hour period.

Chinese mainland reports 1 new locally transmitted Covid-19 case

China's National Health Commission said on Sunday that it received reports of 23 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Saturday, one of which was locally transmitted in Liaoning.

Twenty-two cases were imported from outside the mainland, the commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected cases or deaths related to the disease were reported on Saturday, the Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 21 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland on Saturday.

1,127 fresh coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu reported 1,127 new coronavirus cases on Saturday.

State Health Department said that 1,202 more people have recovered from the disease taking the count of those recovered to 7,84,117. With 14 more fatalities reported, the death toll in the state has risen to 11,968.

The state has 9,692 active cases of the novel coronavirus while 8,05,777 cases of the viral infection have been recorded so far.
