Bangladesh reports 1,275 new coronavirus

Bangladesh reported 1,275 new novel coronavirus cases in a 24-hour time period, taking overall tally to 359,148, according to health officials.
 
The death toll jumped to 5,161 after 32 fatalities were registered on Sunday, bdnews24 reported citing data released by the health directorate.
 
The number of recoveries outpaced fresh cases in the same period as another 1,714 patients recovered from Covid-19 through treatment at home and in hospital care.

India coronavirus update: Covid-19 tally crosses 6 mn; 1,039 more deaths

India's Covid tally galloped past 60 lakh on Monday with 82,170 new cases, while the recoveries have surged to 50.17 lakh with 74,893 more people having recuperated, the Health Ministry said.
 
The death toll from the pathogen climbed to 95,542 with 1,039 more deaths. There are 9,62,640 active cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country, comprising 15.85 per cent of the total caseload, according to the ministry data.

Jharkhand coronavirus update: 974 new Covid-19 cases, 9 more deaths

Jharkhand reported 974 new cases of Covid-19 and nine more deaths, officials said on Monday.
 
The state's death toll reached 679 with the latest fatalities, they said.
 
So far, 79,909 people have been infected by the virus in the state, they added.
 
There are 12,433 active cases at present.

Coronavirus pandemic: Beijing asks frozen food importers to shun countries with severe coronavirus

China's capital called on importers on Monday to shun frozen food from countries suffering from severe novel coronavirus outbreaks after several cases of imported seafood products testing positive for the virus.
 
"Customs and local governments have repeatedly detected the coronavirus in imported cold chain food, proving it risks contamination," the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau said in a statement issued to import companies.
 
The bureau urged them to closely monitor the overseas pandemic situation and "proactively avoid importing cold chain food from areas heavily hit by the coronavirus" and make alternative plans for imports.

Maharashtra coronavirus update: Thane's Covid-19 tally crosses 170,000

The Covid-19 tally in Thane reached 1,70,157 on Monday after 1,523 new cases were found in the Maharashtra district, an official said.
 
The death toll in the district rose to 4,365 after 30 people succumbed to the viral infection on Sunday, he said.
 
Out of the new COVID-19 cases, 418 were reported from Thane city, 347 from Navi Mumbai, 340 from Kalyan town and the remaining from other parts of the district, he said. Read on...

CCMB scientists launch study to assess how long and far the coronavirus can stay in air from an infected person

The CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) here has launched a study in hospital environment to assess how long and far the coronavirus can stay in air from an infected person, in a bid to strengthen the safety of health workers.
 
The objective of the study, which began around ten days ago, was to know whether the virus actually travels in the air and if it does, how far it goes and primarily intended to help the healthcare personnel, CCMB Director Rakesh Mishra said.
 
The study comes two months after more than 200 scientists wrote to the World Health Organisation (WHO), claiming there was evidence that the coronavirus was airborne.

UP coronavirus update: As sample testing declines, coronavirus numbers drop in Agra

As the number of samples collected for testing has gone down in the past few days, the daily tally of Covid-19 figures has also shown a downward trend.
 
When around 3,000 samples were being daily tested till a week ago, the number of positive cases had gone up to 148. Now that the testing of samples has come down to around 2,200, the daily figure has also come down to 70-80. But the sample positivity rate of 3.04 per cent has not shown a decline.

Life support helped many critically ill Covid-19 patients survive: Study

According to a new international study, the life-support option known as ECMO appears to be saving lives for many of the critically ill COVID-19 patients.
 
The 1,035 patients in the study faced a staggeringly high risk of death, as ventilators and other care failed to support their lungs. But after they were placed on ECMO, their actual death rate was less than 40%. More shareholders attended their companies’ annual ge­neral meetings (AGMs) during the pandemic as video conferencing became the norm. However, the paradox is that these higher numbers translate into lower representation.

Most Covid-19 positive patients in Kerala in 20-40 age bracket: KK Shailaja

Most of the COVID-19 patients in Kerala belong to the age category of 20-40 years, while 72 per cent of those who died of COVID-19 are above 60 years, State Health Minister KK Shailaja said on Sunday.
 
Addressing a press meet here on Sunday, she said: "Most of the COVID-19 positive patients in Kerala belong to the age category of 20-40 years, while 72 per cent of those who died of COVID-19 are above 60 years."
