White House staff, Secret Service eye coronavirus with fear, anger
The West Wing is a ghost town. Staff members are scared of exposure. And the White House is now a treatment ward for not one but two Covid patients, including a president who has long taken the threat of the virus lightly.
President Donald Trump's decision to return home from a military hospital despite his continued illness is putting new focus on the people around him who could be further exposed if he doesn't abide by strict isolation protocols.
Throughout the pandemic, White House custodians, ushers, kitchen staff and members of the US Secret Service have continued to show up for work in what is now a coronavirus hot spot, with more than a dozen known cases this week alone.

Mid-recovery, coronavirus spreading, global central bankers take stock
The world's top central bankers have opened the taps with trillions of dollars in promised credit to prevent a global pandemic from causing a global economic depression.
On Tuesday they will update their plans in presentations that could begin to signal just how much more they feel they can do in response to a once-in-a-century economic shock triggered by the spread of the coronavirus.
Despite the efforts made so far, the global economy is not out of the woods given the unique risks posed by the health crisis, and top officials from the Federal Reserve, European Central Bank and Bank of Japan are likely to acknowledge as much when they speak Tuesday at a virtual meeting of the National Association for Business Economics.

26 countries urge Western sanctions lifting to tackle coronavirus
China and 25 other countries have called for the immediate lifting of sanctions by the United States and Western countries to ensure an effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking on behalf of the 26 countries at a meeting of the UN General Assembly's human rights committee on Monday, China's UN Ambassador Zhang Jun said unilateral coercive measures violate the UN Charter, multilateralism and impede human rights by hindering the well-being of the population in the affected countries and undermining the right to health.
Global solidarity and international cooperation are the most powerful weapons in fighting and overcoming COVID-19, the joint statement said. We seize this opportunity to call for the complete and immediate lifting of unilateral coercive measures, in order to ensure the full, effective and efficient response of all members of the international community to COVID-19.
