2,152 new Covid-19 cases take UP's tally to 539,899; death toll 7,718
The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh rose to 7,718 on Saturday with 21 more fatalities, while 2,152 new cases pushed the infection tally to 5,39,899, a senior official here said. "The state has 25,243 active cases while 5,06,938 people have been treated and discharged. The death toll has risen to 7,718," Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters here.
The total number of cases on Saturday rose to 5,39,899 from 5,37,747 on Friday with 2,152 fresh cases, he said. Among the 25,243 active cases in the state, 12,293 are in home isolation, 2,253 are undergoing treatment in private hospitals and the rest are in government hospitals, where they are getting treatment free of cost, Prasad said. On Friday, over 1.74 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in the state, taking the total number of tests to over 1.89 crore, Prasad said.

Drug firmZydus Cadila on Saturday said the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at its Zydus Biotech Park will motivate the company to scale greater heights in its pursuit to bridge unmet healthcare needs. Modi visited Zydus Cadila's manufacturing facility near Ahmedabad, as he began his three-city visit to review ongoing coronavirus vaccine development work.
"His inspiring presence will motivate us to scale greater heights in our quest to bridge unmet healthcare needs,"Zydus Cadila said in a regulatory filing. The Zydus family comprising 25,000 Zydans stands committed to the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'mission and offering the nation safe and efficacious vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics to fight COVID-19, it added. Zydus Cadila had earlier announced that the phase-I clinical trial of its vaccine candidate ZyCoV-D is over and it commenced phase-II clinical trials from August.

BJP to be blamed if Maharashtra faces second Covid-19 wave: minister
Maharashtra minister of state for Revenue Abdul Sattar has slammed the BJP for organising protests on streets amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. "The BJP will be responsible if the state is hit by a second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. The BJP is playing politics by gathering people (for protests)," Sattar told reporters in Nanded on Friday.
He ruled out the possibility of a lockdown in old format at this juncture. "The BJP is gathering people for protests and morchas. If this continues and if Maharashtra faces a second wave of coronavirus pandemic, the BJP will be responsible," he said. In a recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had raised the issue of "some parties" holding protests in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, without naming the BJP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Saturday as part of his three-city tour to take the stock of COVID-19 vaccine development. After landing at Hakimpet Air Force station here, he was received by Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Director General of Police and other officials. He will be proceeding to Bharat Biotech's facility located at Genome valley, a life sciences cluster about 20 km from the AF base, officials said.
Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, being developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virologyis now undergoing phase-3 trials.
The vaccine is being developed and will be manufactured at Bharat Biotech's BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) facility in Genome Valley in Hyderabad. Modi will be interacting with scientists and senior management of the city-based vaccine maker onthe status of Covaxin, officials said. The PM will be flying back to the national capital after a stopover inPune, where he will visit the Serum Institute of India (SII), which has partnered with pharma giant AstraZeneca and the Oxford University for the vaccine. Earlier in the morning, Modi visited Zydus Cadila's plant near Ahmedabad.
