Facebook to use AI in predicting if Covid-19 patients need more care
American social media giant Facebook is publishing a research conducted by its artificial intelligence (AI) unit in an effort to help healthcare providers predict in advance if a COVID-19 patient may need more intensive care solutions and adjust resources accordingly.
According to Mashable, Facebook in a recent detailed blog post said that it had developed two AI models, one based on a single chest X-ray, and another from a series of X-rays that could help forecast if a patient infected by COVID-19 is likely to get worse. With 10,064 new cases, India records lowest Covid numbers since June
Continuing its low streak of fresh daily cases, India on Tuesday recorded 10,064 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, the lowest single-day spike in seven months.
With this the overall tally of Covid-19 cases touched 1,05,81,837, according to the Union Health Ministry.
India had recorded over 10,000 cases on June 6 last year for the first time, and within that week it had hovered around the same number before a steady climb that took the daily figures close to a lakh cases in September. Read on...

SC Bar Association urges Law Min to extend vaccination to judicial staff
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Monday wrote a letter to Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and asked him to extend the Covid-19 vaccination drive to judges, lawyers, and judicial staff.
The SCBA also requested Prasad to include the judges, lawyers and judicial staff and members of the legal fraternity in the category of frontline workers.

Pakistan approves China's Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use
The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has approved a Covid-19 vaccine by China's Sinopharm for emergency use amid an unabated resurgence in the country.
A handout by DRAP on its official website late Monday said that Sinopharm, one of the two vaccines approved by the authority, has been given emergency use authorization after evaluating its safety and quality, Xinhua news agency reported.

India to gift 2 mn doses of Covid-19 vaccine 'Covishield' to Bangladesh
Bangladesh will receive 2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine 'Covishield' as a gift from India on January 20.
Citing the letter by the Indian High Commission written to the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dhaka Tribune reported that a special flight from India carrying the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, locally manufactured by Serum Institute of India, would land at Shahjalal International Airport on January 20.
The Health Services Division under the Ministry has issued a letter to the drug regulator the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) to take appropriate steps to administer the vaccine.

China's Heilongjiang reports 27 new confirmed cases
Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province reported 27 new confirmed Covid-19 cases and 43 asymptomatic infections on Monday, local health authorities said Tuesday.
The cases were all close contacts or secondary close contacts of earlier Covid-19 infections in Huiqi Village, Wangkui County, according to the Heilongjiang provincial health commission.

Coronavirus world update: Global Covid-19 cases top 95.5 mn
The total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 95.5 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.03 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Tuesday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 95,530,563 and 2,039,283, respectively.
