RDIF, Panacea Biotec launch production of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in India
The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Panacea Biotec, one of the leading pharmaceutical producers in India, on Monday launched the production of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.
According to a press statement, the first batch produced at Panacea Biotec's facilities at Baddi will be shipped to the Gamaleya Center for quality control. Full-scale production of the vaccine is due to start this summer.
The company's facilities comply with good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards and are prequalified by World Health Organization (WHO).

States to receive 4.8 mn Covid vaccine doses in next three days: Centre
More than 1.80 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs and they will receive over 48 lakh doses in the next three days, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.
The Centre has so far provided, both through the free of cost category and through direct state procurement category, more than 21.80 crore vaccine doses to states and UTs.

BCCI to donate 2000 oxygen concentrators of 10 litres each to medical organisations battling Covid-19
The Indian cricket board on Monday said it will distribute 2000 oxygen concentrators of 10 litres each to various medical organisations, ramping up the country's overwhelmed healthcare infrastructure in its fight against the raging COVID-19 pandemic.
The deadly second wave of the pandemic has caused unprecedented health crisis with thousands losing their lives.
Last month, the national capital region emerged as the worst sufferer due to oxygen crisis, leading to fatalities in multiple hospitals.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced that it will contribute 10-Litre 2000 Oxygen concentrators to boost India's efforts in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic," the BCCI said in a release.

Uttarakhand extends Covid curfew till June 1
In view of increasing COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand, the state government on Monday announced an extension to the existing COVID curfew till June 1 to prevent further cases.
The decision was taken after the instructions of Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat.
Uttarakhand government's spokesperson and Cabinet Minister, Subodh Uniyal said that it has been decided to open the market from 8 am to 11 am instead of 7 to 10 am.

Feature for on-site registration enabled for 18-44 age group on CoWIN: Govt
On-site registration and appointment for Covid vaccination is now being enabled for the 18-44 years age group on CoWIN platform, said government on Monday. However, this feature is being enabled only for government-run Covid vaccination centres at the moment, said Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With launch of phase 2 of the national vaccination drive on March 1, 2021, facility for only online registration and appointment of citizens aged 45 years or more was offered on CoWIN digital platform. The feature for on-site registration and appointment was introduced later for these priority groups. Subsequently, the coverage of vaccination was expanded to people in the age group of 18 to 44 years on May 1, 2021. The facility of only online appointment mode given initially to people in the age group of 18 to 44 years helped to avoid overcrowding at the vaccination centres, said the ministry. READ MORE...

UP private schools to provide free education to Covid orphans
More than 2,000 private schools across Uttar Pradesh have decided to provide free education to children whose parents have passed away due to Covid-19. The Uttar Pradesh Unaided Private Schools' Association (UPSA) President, Anil Agarwal said that the decision was taken after an online meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma.
"We have unanimously decided that all private schools under the association will not take a single penny from children whose parents have succumbed to Covid. We will also provide stationery and uniform to such students too," he said.
Agarwal said the children who have lost the only earning member of the family, be it the father or mother, would also be given a 50 per cent fee concession, besides for stationery and uniform.

The vaccination exercise as a tool to protect the most vulnerable population groups in the country from COVID-19 continues to be regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level.
