Government decides to discontinue the Central Allocation of Remdesivir
Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri Mansukh Mandaviya informed that the production of Remdesivir is ramped up ten times from 33,000 vials/day on 11th April 2021 to 3,50,000 vials/day today under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Minister further informed that the Government has also increased the number of plants producing Remdesivir from 20 to 60 plants within a month. Indian Medical Association challenges yoga guru Ramdev, asks him to participate in open debate
After yoga guru Ramdev made defamatory statements against allopathy and "defaming" scientific medicine, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Uttarakhand on Friday challenged him for an open debate on a public platform in the presence of media.
IMA Uttarakhand President Dr Ajay Khanna in a letter to yoga guru Ramdev called his statement rash, irresponsible and selfish.
"This is to inform you that IMA UA State through its state office request you to constitute a team of qualified and duly registered Ayurvedacharyas from Patanjali Yogpeeth to have a one-to-one discussion with a team of doctors of IMA UA State which has already been constituted by the state office. This one-to-one panel discussion shall be closely supervised and recorded by the electronic and print media which shall also be invited in this panel discussion," IMA letter reads.

22,101 inmates in jails across Thailand infected with coronavirus
A total of 22,101 lodged in jails across Thailand have been infected with Covid-19, a government official confirmed.
In a statement on Friday, Veerakit Harnpariphan, deputy director general of the Department of Corrections under the Ministry of Justice, said the inmates were in 15 prisons located in the capital Bangkok and other areas, reports Xinhua news agency.
Of them, 15,445 people are currently being treated in hospitals and field hospitals, Veerakit said.
Thailand on Friday reported 3,759 new confirmed cases and new fatalities, bringing the total tally to 144,976 cases with 954 deaths. Read on...

Israel extends travel ban to 7 nations including India until June 13
The Israeli government has extended an ongoing travel ban to seven countries, including India, until June 13, according to a joint statement.
The statement issued on Friday by the Ministries of Health and Transport and the Prime Minister's Office also lists Ukraine, Ethiopia, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico and Turkey, Xinhua news agency reported.

Telangana reports 3,527 new Covid-19 cases, active caseload at 37,793
As many as 3,527 new Covid-19 cases were registered in the last 24 hours, taking the active caseload to 37,793 in Telangana, informed the state health department on Saturday.
Telangana reported 19 Covid-related new deaths and 3,982 fresh recoveries during the 24-hour period, as per the state health department.
The cumulative caseload stands at 5,71,044, including 5,30,025 recoveries and 3,226 deaths.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 519, followed by Nalgonda with 218 cases and Khammam reported 215 new cases.

India coronavirus update: Daily Covid-19 count recorded lowest in 45 days
The single day rise in coronavirus cases was recorded at 1,73,790, the lowest in last 45 days, taking India's total tally of Covid-19 cases to 2,77,29,247, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Saturday.
The daily positivity further declined to 8.36 per cent, remaining below 10 per cent for five consecutive days, while the weekly positivity rate dropped to 9.84 per cent, it said.
The death toll climbed to 3,22,512 with 3,617 fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Also, 20,80,048 tests were conducted on Friday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of Covid-19 in the country to 34,11,19,909, the ministry said. Read on...

Varanasi: New born tests positive for Covid despite mother being negative
A new born girl tested positive for Covid-19 at a hospital in Banaras Hindu University's (BHU) Sir Sunderlal Hospital, despite her mother testing negative before the delivery.
According to Dr Kaushan Kumar Gupta, the Medical Superintendent, the mother was tested for Covid-19 on May 24 before giving birth. The following day, she gave birth to a girl, who tested positive.
"A woman tested negative in an RT-PCR test at BHU's Sir Sunderlal Hospital on May 24 before delivery. She gave birth to a baby girl on May 25. She was tested Covid after her birth. The result was Covid-positive," he told ANI.
He added, "There are certain flaws and limitations of an RT-PCR test.
