Puducherry sees 1,759 new cases of Covid, 29 deaths
The Union Territory of Puducherry logged 1,759 new cases of fresh coronavirus and 29 deaths during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM on Wednesday. The fresh cases have raised the overall tally to 89,508 and the deaths to 1,241, a senior official of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare services said.
The new cases were identified at the end of testing of 9,007 samples, putting the test positivity rate at 19.52 per cent, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services S Mohan Kumar said. Of the 29 deceased, 10 were men and the rest women.

Covid LIVE: Over 2 million tests in last 24 hours; positivity rate drops to 13.3%
More than 20 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, the highest ever tests conducted in a single day in India, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Monday.
Ministry in a release said continuing the positive trend, India records less than 3 lakh new cases for three consecutive days and the positivity rate in the country has declined to 13.31 per cent.
"20.08 lakh tests conducted in the last 24 hours in the country is also a global record. Over 32 crore tests have been conducted so far across the country. A total of 2,67,334 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours. Daily recoveries outnumber daily new cases for the sixth consecutive day. 3,89,851 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours. India's cumulative recoveries have reached 2,19,86,363 today. The national recovery rate has grown further to touch 86.23 per cent," the release stated.

5.86 crore Covid vaccine doses to be provided for free to states, UTs from May 1 to June 15: Govt
According to the advance visibility provided by the Centre to states and UTs, a total of 5.86 crore COVID vaccine doses will be provided free of cost to them from May 1 to June 15, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
In addition, as per information received from vaccine manufacturers, a total of 4.87 crore doses will also be available till June end for direct procurement by states and UTs, the ministry said.
In view of the above visibility of vaccines with clear supply timelines till June and in order to ensure efficient and judicious utilisation of available doses for successful implementation of the vaccination drive, the states and UTs have been advised to prepare a district-wise, COVID Vaccination Centre (CVC)-wise plan for administration of vaccines.

Odisha logs 11,099 fresh Covid-19 cases, 21 more fatalities
Odisha's COVID-19 tally surged to 6,44,401 on Wednesday after 11,099 people tested positive, while 21 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 2,378, a health department official said.
The coastal state now has 1,05,375 active cases, and 5,36,595 patients have recovered from the disease, including 10,2422 since Tuesday, he said.
Of the fresh cases, 6,214 infections were detected in quarantine centres.

Karnataka govt announces Rs 1,250 crore Covid relief package for those hit by lockdown
As Karnataka is battling the second wave of pandemic, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Wednesday announced over Rs 1,250 crore relief package for those whose livelihood has been affected by COVID-19 induced lockdown.
The Chief Minister also said a decision will be taken on extending the current lockdown, a couple of days ahead of it coming to a close on May 24.

Pakistan logs 3,256 fresh Covid cases, tally at 886,184
Pakistan has reported 3,256 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 886,184, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said on Wednesday.
A total of 104 people died across the country during the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 19,856, said NCOC, adding that 799,951 people have recovered so far while 4,549 patients are in critical condition, Xinhua reported.
The country has conducted 12,552,339 tests officially so far since February of last year, and a total of 212,625 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered on Tuesday, increasing the tally to 4,745,378 doses, according to the NCOC.

Dr Reddys Laboratories, which is in a pact with Russian Direct Investment Fund to sell 125 million people doses (250 million vials) of Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V in India, is holding parleys with RDIF for acquiring rights for more countries, a senior official of the Indian drug maker said.
Dr Reddy's which had received over two lakh vaccines from RDIF, recently soft-launched Sputnik V and tied up with Apollo Hospitals for piloting the vaccine.
