At current pace, it'll take 30 months to vaccinate adults: Delhi CM to PM

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Saturday, flagged the unavailability of Covid-19 vaccines in the city and said that at the current pace of vaccination, it would take 30 months to vaccinate Delhi’s adult population.
 
Kejriwal, in a press conference, announced that vaccination for the 18-44 age group had been halted in the city due to lack of supply.
 
"We've to close the vaccination centres from today as vaccines for the 18+ category are exhausted. Delhi needs 8 million vaccines every month so that everyone here can be vaccinated within 3 months,” the Delhi CM reportedly wrote in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Read here

India's consumer confidence worsens in May as Covid hits sentiment

The consumer confidence in India has further weakened in May amid the severe Covid crisis and the resultant lockdowns across states.
 
The monthly Refinitiv-Ipsos Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) for India, in May, has shown a sharp drop of 6.3 percentage points, over April 2021, amid Covid-19 fears.
 
The monthly PCSI, which is driven by the aggregation of the four weighted sub-indices, has plunged across all sub-indices. The PCSI Employment Confidence Sub-Index is down by 4.7 percentage points, the PCSI Current Personal Financial Conditions Sub-Index has steeply fallen by 9.0 percentage points. Read here

Pune reports 353 cases of black fungus, 20 deaths so far

As many as 353 new cases of black fungus (mucormycosis) and 20 deaths were reported in the Pune, according to the official data of district administration on Saturday.
 
The district has seen a spike in the cases of mucormycosis in the last couple of days and at presently there are about 115 patients who are still being treated in the different hospitals.
 
"Out of 353 cases reported in Pune district about 167 cases were reported from Pune city and 11 from Pune rural of which all have been treated and discharged from the hospitals. Presently there are 115 active patients of Mucormycosis in Pune district including 70 cases from Pimpri Chinchwad and 45 being treated at state-run Sassoon General Hospital," informed district administration. Record 2.06 million Covid tests done in a day in India: Govt

Over 20.66 lakh tests for detection of Covid-19 were conducted in a span of 24 hours in the country, the highest-ever done in a single day, the Union health ministry said on Saturday.
 
In a statement, the ministry said it is also the fourth successive day that the number of tests has been more than 20 lakh.
 
"With more than 20.66 lakh tests conducted in the last 24 hours, India has again set a new record of highest tests conducted in a day," it said.
 
Over 19.33 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country under the inoculation drive against Covid-19, the statement said. (PTI)
