Monthly GST return filing deadline extended till June 26

The government on Monday said the deadline for filing monthly GST sales returns for May has been extended by 15 days till June 26.
 
The GST Council, chaired by the Union Finance Minister and comprising state counterparts, on May 28 had decided to extend certain compliance relaxations on account of Covid-19.
 
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) in a series of tweets listed out the various relaxations extended by the Council. (PTI)

Singapore PM Lee says Covid here to stay, vows to reopen borders

Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Monday the deadly coronavirus will not disappear completely and will keep infecting people for years to come, urging citizens to carry on with their lives in this "new normal" while promising to reopen the country's borders.
 
Addressing the nation on the government's Covid plan, Lee said the Covid pandemic will remain with the humankind and become endemic.
 
"One day this global pandemic will subside. But I do not expect Covid to disappear. It will remain with humankind, and become endemic. The virus will continue to circulate in pockets of the global population for years to come. This also means we will see small outbreaks of the disease from time to time in Singapore as well," he said. (PTI)

Delhi CM will continue to demand vaccines despite attack by BJP: Sisodia

BJP leaders "criticise and abuse" Arvind Kejriwal whenever he works for the people, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged on Monday, while asserting that the chief minister will continue to demand Covid-19 vaccines, despite the attack on him by the ruling party at the Centre.
 
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda have "criticsed and abused" Kejriwal as he has started demanding more vaccines for Delhi, he said.
 
"BJP leaders have been criticising and abusing Kejriwal because they want to cover up the failure of their government in vaccine management. But no matter how much they abuse, Kejriwal will continue to demand vaccines for the people of Delhi," Sisodia said in an online briefing. (PTI)

To support its subscribers during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, EPFO has now allowed its members to avail second non-refundable COVID-19 advance. The provision for special withdrawal to meet the financial need of members during pandemic was introduced in March 2020, under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY). An amendment to this effect was made by Ministry of Labour & Employment in Employees’ Provident Funds Scheme, 1952 by inserting therein sub-para (3) under paragraph 68L, through notification in the Official Gazette. Relaxations in corona curfew in 61 UP districts from Tuesday

The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday extended the relaxations announced in the coronavirus curfew to six more districts from June 1, allowing shops and markets outside the containment zones to open for five days a week.
 
The relaxations will be applicable to a total of 61 districts from Tuesday, while 14 districts with an active COVID-19 caseload of over 600 have been kept outside the purview of the order for the time being.
 
"The relaxations were announced in 55 districts on Sunday, which has now been increased to 61 (of the state's 75 districts). According to latest reports, the active caseload has fallen below 600 in Sonbhadra, Deoria, Baghpat, Prayagraj, Bijnore and Moradabad, and the relaxations will be applicable in these six districts as well," an official spokesperson said here. Operations at Renault plant affected as some staff stay off work amid virus fears

Operations at Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) factory here have been partly affected on Monday with a section of employees not reporting for duty in the wake of the ongoing second wave of the pandemic, according to Union sources.
 
The company had suspended operations at the plant for five days from May 26 amid demand from workers to temporarily stop production in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu even as the state government extended the lockdown for another week starting May 24 with more stringent measures.
 
"Today, many of us, out of the 8,000 employees here at the plant, including contract labourers, are staying away from work. Only the office bearers of the Renault Nissan Thozhilalargal Sangam (Employees Union) have come to discuss with the management on further course of action," a Union source said. (PTI)

Ladakh coronavirus update: 49 fresh Covid cases, one more death recorded

Ladakh recorded 49 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the infection tally to 18,497 while the death toll reached 188 with one more fatality, officials said on Monday.
 
Of the 49 new cases, 39 were reported from Leh and 10 cases from Kargil.
 
Ninety-six people were discharged from hospitals after recuperating from the infection, pushing the total number of recoveries to 16,754, the officials said.
 
With the death of one more Covid-19 patient in Kargil, the total number of fatalities in Ladakh has reached 188 -- 136 in Leh and 52 in Kargil.
