Coronavirus cases decline in Nepal, challenges remain with daily infections

New coronavirus infections have been declining in Nepal in recent days, however, the country is still facing many challenges as the daily infections remain high.

 

As of Monday morning, Nepal overall coronavirus caseload and death toll stood at 557,124 and 7,272, respectively.

 

The Himalayan country reported 8,000-9,000 cases on most days in May before a decline was witnessed in the last few days since the second wave of the pandemic started in early April, reports Xinhua news agency.

 

The tally has fallen since May 26 below 7,000 cases per day, with 4,311 infections recorded on May 9. Read on...

Open up vaccination to India's private sector: SpiceJet scion Avani Singh

Avani Singh, the chief executive officer of SpiceHealth and daughter of SpiceJet Ltd. Chairman Ajay Singh, has called upon India’s government to open up the manufacture and procurement of vaccines to the private sector, saying it’s the only way to ensure the nation’s vast population receives adequate protection from the pandemic.

 

“The government needs to become much more lenient in opening up vaccination to the private sector,” Singh said in an interview last week. “We are obviously moving at a much slower pace with vaccinations than we should be. If they let private players like labs and hospitals procure vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and let private players make Covaxin more aggressively we could significantly ramp up the administration and build up enough immunity to get out of this faster. India reported the lowest daily new coronavirus infections in 50 days with 1,52,734 cases, taking the tally to 2,80,47,534 on Monday, while the active caseload declined to 20,26,092, the Health Ministry said.
